A Dose of Mercy
This poem was taken from headlines from the Courier Journal of Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, March 2, 2019 and March 6, 2019.
Louisville is home to the Muhammad Ali Center. Muhammad Ali was a great boxer and civil rights activist: man vs. man in cincinnati & louisville.

“POETRY” Invitation: I invite you to write a poem of any poetic form on your own blog about a particular travel destination. Or you can write about travel in general. Concentrate on any intention you set for your poetry.
One of my intentions for my trip to Kentucky was to write a Headline Poem. I started by getting two local newspapers, both the Courier Journal (from different dates), from Louisville, Kentucky. I cut out about 50 words and phrases from the two newspapers. I played around with all the cut-out words and phrases and then arranged them on card stock, then glued them down.
You can either set your own poetic intentions, or use one of the prompts I’ve listed on this page: writing prompts: poetry. (This page is a work in process). You can also include photos, of course.
Include the link in the comments below by Thursday, August 6 at 1:00 p.m. EST. When I write my post in response to this challenge on Friday, August 7, I’ll include your links in that post.
This will be an ongoing invitation, on the first Friday of each month. Feel free to jump in at any time. 🙂
I hope you’ll join in our community. I look forward to reading your posts!
Another amazing poetic interpretation of the headlines.

Thanks Pauline. This one was a bit more difficult, but I got tired of trying to make something good of it, and I finally gave up! 🙂

Hi Cathy,
here is my link leading to a result of a recent made poetic journey to several lakes, and we are really blessed here with a lot of them. So each summer new ones are waiting to be discovered. The one featured here is called Wurlsee:

The news from the USA are getting more and more disturbing, so I hope you will always find a safe way in these very complicated times.

I love your poetic journey, Ulli. That lake looks very mysterious indeed. You’re lucky to have so many beautiful ones to explore. Yes, our news here is not good, so we are trying to get by and hoping for the best. Thanks for your good wishes. 🙂

Although, the situation in Germany is much better, we won’t leave Germany this summer for holidays in the Austrian Alps (as usual) because nobody knows for sure what might happen in 2 weeks or even tomorrow – regional lockdowns actually again in Lisbon and also 1 German county. Can’t read all of these news anymore. We hope that till Christmas things look much better so that we can go to the Canarian Islands again (without face mask!). 🙂

There is so much uncertainty, Ulli. It’s a hard time for everyone, except for those of you whose countries actually did all the right things. Ours is a mess. I hope you can go to the Canary Islands at Christmas, and without masks! 🙂

A German newspaper published a longer article on COVID19, and the main conclusion was that it will simply disappear again sooner or later like the Spanish Influenza did 100 years ago. There are seemingly many similarities between the 2 virus. Sooner would be indeed fine. Good luck!

Oh my gosh! I hope that article is right, and sooner rather than later would be fine indeed! I wish!!!!! I’m really sick of this. Keep safe and healthy, Ulli. 🙂

Thank you, Anabel. This one was tougher than usual, and I can’t say I was very happy with the result, but time ran out! 🙂

Your artwork and word-work flatter my hometown.
Maybe someday I’ll go somewhere and can write about it.

If you’d like me to link any of your poems to my monthly posts (I can’t write a poem a day as you do!), I’d be happy to, whether you’ve been anywhere or not. If you have one you’ve written that evokes a sense of place, let me know. Take care, Christopher. 🙂
