A city that enlivens itself by investing in street art is one that uplifts and transforms: the city, its people, the entire atmosphere.ย ArtWorks Cincinnati is a program that, according to its website: “believes in human potential and fights for the betterment of our local communities through the power of the arts.”
Below is a sample of street murals in Cincinnati, Ohio we discovered during our three day visit in early March of this year.

โPHOTOGRAPHYโ INVITATION:ย I invite you to create a photography intention and then create a blog post for a place you have visited. Alternately, you can post a thematic post about a place, photos of whatever you discovered that set your heart afire. You can also do a thematic post of something you have found throughout all your travels: churches, doors, people reading, people hiking, mountains, patterns, all black & white, whatever!
You probably have your own ideas about this, but in case youโd like some ideas, you can visit my page: photography inspiration.
I challenge you to post no more than 20-25 photos and to write less than 1,500 words about any travel-related photography intention you set for yourself. Include the link in the comments below by Wednesday, May 29 at 1:00 p.m. EST.ย When I write my post in response to this challenge on Thursday, May 30, Iโll include your links in that post.
This will be an ongoing invitation, every first and third (& 5th, if there is one) Thursday of each month. Feel free to jump in at any time. ๐
I hope youโll join in our community. I look forward to reading your posts!

Thanks to all of you who shared posts on the โphotographyโ invitation. ๐
Beautiful artwork here. The weather wasn’t so kind to you when you took the first pictures! … I am a great fan of street art.

Thanks so much. Yes, the weather was quite miserable on that day we were trying to walk around Cincinnati! I love street art, and especially I love the cities that have a program to promote it. It’s so much nicer than graffiti, which mars the landscape of many cities.

A truly fabulous arty city! I love street art, but hate graffiti and especially when done on top of lovely works like these.

I’m sure I only caught a few of the hundreds of art murals in Cincinnati, Jude, because the weather hindered us from the walks we planned. I wish I could have seen more.
By the way, I wrote a comment in response to yours about the weather in Morocco and Italy, but it didn’t post. Maybe in Spam? Maybe you limit comment threads to a certain number? ๐

I’ll have a look, I have lost several comments this week too. Bizarre!

It is great to see that street-art now nearly everywhere, and you made a very nice selection, always difficult with so many works in town. Many thanks for including my tiny bizarre story. I am now looking forward to my next short (city)-trip in May, not yet not decided where to go, so we will follow a spontaneous path to move ….

Thanks so much, Ulli. We had planned to take a lot of urban hikes, but the weather was so cold (below freezing) and miserable, we ended up driving most places. Look forward to hearing about your spontaneous trip ahead. ๐

MThe weather is actually so lousy that our hibiscus-plants are standing still inside, too cold in the night and even during the day for putting them outside. We visited a stork village most recently, so much to discover in this world ….

The weather here was so cold and rainy too, but finally, in the last two days, it has warmed up. The stork village sounds very interesting! ๐

Some street art is so clever, you can just look and look at it, Cathy. You have a few examples here that I really like. ๐ ๐

Thanks, Jo. I was amazed by the art in Cincinnati and I’m sure we only saw a small part of it.

A spectacular collection. Iโm trying to figure out when the urge to street art became almost universal – and official – and why this might have been. At a recent sculpture symposium all five artists had a history in commissioned public art, which I suppose isnโt all that surprising for sculptors.

Thanks, Meg. I think it is so much nicer than graffiti and really enlivens what could be very boring and derelict streets and parking lots. It seems like it would be more common for sculptors, but I’m glad it’s that way for painters nowadays.

Hi Cathy,
just want to share today a different story because I have already joined several ornithological excursions in the recent years. And this leads sometimes to a post in my blog, in this case about the strange birds named great bustards living 60 km from my home in the Federal State of Brandenburg. It is a vulnerable species but they have a strong lobby here in Germany, more details here:
https://urbansimulator.wordpress.com/2019/05/24/the-red-lines-of-being/
I do not have the photo equipment to photograph these birds in far distance, and animal photography a very special ouevre and subject. In the coming weeks my concentration will be on the analog world, so no new posts from my side to be expected before end of June.
Cheers,
Ulli

I’m not even sure what the analog world is! I hope you enjoy it, whatever it is. Maybe you can explain what you mean for me. ๐
As for your post, Iโm happy to hear that Germany is doing so much to bring back the populations of these unusual birds. How great for birdwatchers that they can now find spaces reserved for spotting these birds. Iโll be happy to link this to my next prose post on May 28. Thanks for sharing the link. ๐

Analog world = real postcards, paperbooks, papermaps, handmade artworks, being in nature and more of such oldfashioned stuff. You know all this very well. Slowing down. Nice.
